No feat is ever accomplished in isolation, and this book is no exception. My availability to write and consult within healthcare continues to be supported by many people and two in particular: Bryan, my husband of nearly 30 years, and Tim, the best colleague and friend one could ever hope to have. Bryan provides unconditional support for the work I am doing, and for that I will be eternally grateful. Tim continues to be the best there is in every venue we work in. He is incredibly smart, patient, and focused. Finally, our chapter authors have been a delight to work with; some are very experienced writers and some are first-time writers. Each chapter author embraced this work with passion for the message and dedication to creating an excellent product.
What a great opportunity this has been to share with great colleagues and work together on a project that focuses on continuing to build the future of our profession. I have been fortunate to be associated with the best nurses in every arena of practice, and I’m grateful for the experience. I am especially thankful to my co-author, Kathy Malloch, for her wisdom, patience, and kindness on the professional and personal journey we have taken together during the past 20 years—it has been a great collaboration. To Mark Ponder, my partner in life for the past 38 years, I can only say how much my life has been blessed because you have traveled with me. And to my colleagues, young and old, emerging and retiring, I am eternally grateful for your continuing inspiration and contribution to my learning and for enriching my appreciation for the profession we love so deeply.
